- Your first hat will take you approximately 8 hours. As you make more hats, you will become much faster and can look forward to finishing a hat in only a few hours.
- A 4 strand plait is ideal. 3 strand plaits tend to pull open and leave gaps when stretched, and 5 strand plaits have hard edges which show as circular ridges around the hat.
- If your plait is around 3/4" wide, you will need around 33 feet to make a hat.
- A hat block is most necessary if you want to make a hat which will fir the first time it is sewn. While it is possible to make a hat without a hat block, it is similar to making a dress without a pattern; very difficult unless you have a lot of experience.
